Fall Color Plant Material

These are our best picks for some great fall color:

  • Burning Bush (Euonymus alatus)-Red hot fall color showing off winged bark after the leaves fall off. Ht. 8’ & Spd. 6’.

  • Burning Bush, Dwarf (Euonymus alatus ‘Compacta’)-Same as above for fall color and winter interest but grows half the size. Ht. 5’ & Spd. 4’.

  • Serviceberry (Amelanchier var.)-This small tree or large shrub turns a rainbow of yellow, orange and red in the fall season. Ht. 10-15’ & Spd. 8-10’.

  • Lilac ‘Miss Kim’ (Syringa patula ‘Miss Kim’)-The medium sized lilac turns a burgundy/purple tinge in the fall months. Ht. 4-5’ & Spd. 4-5’.

  • Sumac Varieties (Rhus var.)- Our favorite varieties are Grow-Low Fragrant and Rocky Mountain for their sustainability.  All varieties turn vibrant reds and oranges in the fall. Ht. 3’-10’ & Spd. 3’-8’.

  • Ash ‘Autumn Purple’ (Fraxinus americana ‘Autumn Purple’)- Beautiful shade tree that has an array of yellow, red and purple shades in fall. Ht. 50’ & Spd. 30’.

Fall To Do List

  • Start with a fresh yard in the spring by having a FALL CLEAN UP planned. Get up all the leaves, pine needles and debris from animals.  PRUNE back shrubs and perennials.

  • MULCH  plant material for winter protection.

  • PLANT flowering bulbs for the spring months.  Bulbs will come up months before anything else.

  • Drain or blow out your IRRIGATION system for the winter months.

  • Take inventory of  your landscape LIGHTING. What needs to be repaired, repositioned or is burnt out?

  • Warm up with FIRE!  Add a fireplace or fire pit for year round comfort and enjoyment in your landscape.

  • DECORATE pots with hardy fall plants such as Ornamental Kale, Pansies and Mums.

  • Plan your next LANDSCAPE PROJECT for the next year or years to come. Take note of things you like, things you don’t and what you want to get out of your landscape. Start the DESIGN process by hiring a landscape designer to help with your planning.

  • Clean out your DOWNSPOUTS! Have us clean out the leaves, needles and dirt to ensure your downspouts are draining properly and not backing up.
