As Water Restrictions & Drought Conditions Continue, ColoradoScaping is a Great Solution
Denver Water has a new term for Xeric-forward landscapes: ColoradoScape
What is ColoradoScape? According to Highlands Ranch Water District:
“ColoradoScape is a natural landscape, comprised of low to very-low water use plant material, which blends in with the native Colorado landscape. Plant material must be maintained in its natural, native form. This landscaping utilizes a combination of hardscape and landscape materials, providing a variety of colors, textures, sizes, shapes, and seasonal interest.”
While the recent rain we have received around the front range has offered some relief to the current drought conditions in the Denver Metro area, the rest of the state is still deemed in active drought. As temperatures continue to rise every year, considering a xeric-friendly landscape with native plants and trees primed to do well in our high altitude desert climate will allow you to still have beautiful outdoor spaces without worrying about water usage or future restrictions.
In fact, many water districts in the Denver metro area offer rebate programs for removing blue grass and planting more drought friendly options. Check out this list to see if your city participates.
Now is the perfect time to rethink your yard — not as a sacrifice, but as an upgrade. Imagine ornamental grasses swaying in the breeze, vibrant native blooms, natural stone, and a landscape that thrives on Colorado's terms. Less water. More beauty. Real value.
